In high school I was accepted into the Jordan Applied Technology Center's Teacher Education Program.
As part of this class I was assigned practicum hours to help in an elementary school classrooms two times a week, and in a middle school classroom two times a week. I was able to get a good sense of what it is like to be a teacher. I was asked a lot of questions, I helped teach the daily lessons the the professional teacher had provided, I was able to make copies, help prepare homework folders, and make a lot of flash cards. My very first day at my practicum, a teacher told me, "Teaching is 10% teaching 90% preparing." I never realized what teachers really have to go through to make their classroom run efficiently. I am excited for that challenge in my future.
